Psalm 89: Promise, Struggle, and Reality by W. Robert Godfrey (TableTalk Magazine). “Psalm 89 helps us reflect on and appreciate the steadfast love and faithfulness of God and to express honestly our questions and frustrations—in the midst of this present crisis and always.”
Fighting Loneliness in the Coronavirus Outbreak by John Piper. “God has provided grace for all kinds of situations in this fallen world that are not ideal. And loneliness is one of them. He’s not unaware of it. Jesus experienced it, and there is grace for it — whether the short term of coronavirus loneliness or the long term of a life situation that involves loneliness.”
Gentle and Lowly: A 14 Day Podcast. I linked to this last week, but the podcast is so good I want to make sure you don’t miss it. This new daily podcast is for anxious and discouraged Christians. In each roughly 4 minute episode, Dane Ortlund, author of Gentle and Lowly: The Heart of Christ for Sinners and Sufferers (which I haven’t read) and the devotions included in the ESV Devotional Psalter (which Stephanie and I love!), shares a brief Scripture reading and a devotional meditation on a different aspect of the heart of Christ. He aims to help you “discover afresh not just what Jesus has done for you but how he feels about you as his beloved.” This looks very promising!
Logos 8 Basic (free Bible study software). Craig and I both use Logos, though the version we use isn’t free! Logos 8 Basic comes with a number of resources to help you dig into the Bible, including a few English translations, a Bible dictionary, and a study Bible. The software runs on Mac, Windows, and mobile devices. It’s also available on the web.
An Approach to Extended Scripture Memorization (free PDF) by Andy Davis. Andy is a pastor at First Baptist Church Durham and he memorizes whole books of the Bible. He’s written this guide to aid you in memorizing large portions of Scripture by means of a simple (not necessarily easy) daily habit.
Tune My Heart: Songs of Rest & Reflection by Andrew Greer & Friends (Apple Music, Spotify). Classic hymns and a few newer worship songs. I’ve been enjoying this over the past few weeks.
