The Family that Suffers Together Blesses Together

Text: 1 Peter 3:8-17

In our passage, Peter moves to the end of the household codes to address all of us as believers.  As he does, he emphasizes the fact that our sojourning and suffering in this life is to occur within the supportive context of Christian, family love.  As those who experience this love and share in the blessed inheritance that we have received from God, we are called not only to non-retaliation, but to bless those who do evil to us.  Tomorrow we will examine how Peter prepares us for this high calling.

In preparation for this message, it will be helpful to read 1 Pet 2:13-3:17.  He also relies upon Psalm 34 to build his argument, so if you read that as well, it will be fresh in your mind.  For some parallel ideas, see Romans 12:9-21.
