The Discipline of the Lord

Text: Hebrews 12:5-11
Speaker: Ryan Wentzel
Date: June 12, 2016

The experience of trials in the Christian life is one of the biggest sources of discouragement for believers.  Trials threaten to destroy our faith and steal our joy.  Hardship tempts us to question God’s love and goodness.

In the midst of our suffering, God speaks to us through his Word.  In this sermon we consider together what God has to say to us in Hebrews 12:5-11.  The British preacher Alexander Maclaren said of this passage, “Few words of Scripture have been oftener than these laid as a healing balm on wounded hearts.”  This passage provides us with a perspective on our trials that is both sobering and extremely encouraging.

Please read Hebrews 12:1-17 and Deuteronomy 8:1-10 in preparation for listening to this sermon.
