This Sunday we will begin James 2 which begins the subject of favoritism in the church.
While we live in a culture which frowns on discrimination, we are all tempted to have our heads turned by human glory – wealth, fame, education, status, etc.

James approaches this very practical subject in a theological way.
He states that partiality towards men is inconsistent with our faith (by which we are justified) in Christ (who is the glorious Lord God).
When we know the glory of Christ, the glory of men will fade into insignificance.
To judge people based upon earthly status is contrary to God (one of Whose attributes is justice) Who refuses to show favoritism based upon outward appearances.
James also says that discriminating against the poor or lowly is inconsistent with God’s choice (the doctrine of election) of them.
