Tomorrow my plan is to complete our four part series on the mission of the church.

Our mission is to build a community of gospel-centered people (disciples) as we:
1. Worship God in spirit and truth (John 4:24; Acts 2:42).
2. Serve one another by exercising our spiritual gifts (I Cor. 12:4-6; Eph. 4:11-16).
3. Proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world (Mt. 28:18-20; Acts 1:8).
4. Live out a biblical worldview in all spheres of life (Jer. 29:7; Mt. 5:13-16).

This week’s topic is the broadest and the most controversial.

There are aspects of this topic on which we will all agree. We as Christians should live out God’s Word as we express the gospel in all of life – our vocation, our family, etc. We also agree that we should have concern for the needs of the world around us.

Differences come as to how we interact with the world. Do we hope and work towards Christian government? Should we withdraw from the secular world? Should we expect Jesus’ return any day and therefore focus only on the spiritual aspects of life?

Should the church as an institution get involved in meeting community needs such as poverty and homelessness, or is this the responsibility of individual believers?

What passages and situations from Scripture best apply to the situation in which we find ourselves today?

Before coming to church please read Jeremiah 29:1-7 and Matthew 5:13-16.
